Launch of the CORONADO project

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic affecting more than 150 countries around the world, it very quickly became obvious that the presence of diabetes would be a risk factor for the severity of the infection.

Nevertheless, beyond the initial Chinese epidemiological data, the phenotypic characteristics of diabetic patients with COVID-19 remain imprecise and patchy (type of diabetes ? duration of diabetes progression ? quality of glycemic control ? presence of diabetic complications ? type of treatment ? etc.).

In order to answer the questions of patients and healthcare professionals, we are launching today an observational study aimed at including 300 COVID-19 diabetic patients throughout the country within a very short period of time (3 weeks) and to determine the factors predictive of severe forms.

This pilot study is being promoted by the Nantes University Hospital and is supported by the Société Francophone du Diabète, the Société de Pathologie Infectieuse de Langue Française and the Fédération Française des Diabétiques.
